MoU signed between KU and Xiamen University of China

KHULNA, May 08, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna University (KU) and Xiamen University of China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today aimed at advancing research on coastal ecosystems and biodiversity conservation.

The agreement, signed through a virtual ceremony, brings together the School of Life Science at KU and the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education for Coastal Wetland Ecosystems at Xiamen University, said a press release here.

Prof Dr. Md. Nurunnabi, treasurer of Khulna University and Prof Dr. Yihui Zhang, director of the Key Laboratory at Xiamen University, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.

The MoU sets the stage for faculty and student exchanges, joint research initiatives, sharing of information and technology and cultural cooperation between the two universities

KU VC Prof Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim hailed the partnership as a major step forward in addressing global challenges related to coastal environments. 

"This MoU is more than a formal agreement. It reflects a shared commitment to academic excellence, international cooperation and sustainable development," he said during the ceremony.

He also emphasized the strategic alignment between Xiamen University's global reputation in coastal research and KU's focus on the deltaic and coastal context of Bangladesh. 

"We hope this collaboration will produce new knowledge, nurture young researchers and foster greater intercultural understanding," he added.

Other participants in the virtual signing included KU Pro-VC Prof Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid Khan, dean of the School of Life Science Prof Dr. Md. Golam Hossain and associate director of the Key Laboratory Professor Dr. Luzhen Chen, from Xiamen University.
