SYLHET, May 9, 2025 (BSS) - The third cargo flight from Sylhet Osmani International Airport departed for Spain on Thursday (May 8) night.

A chartered Galistair Aviation freighter (flight 8S-1934), carrying 60 tonnes of readymade garments, took off at 10:27pm.

Shahnewaz Talukder, Sylhet regional manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, confirmed the matter.

Earlier, the first direct cargo flight from Sylhet was launched on April 27, also carrying 60 tonnes of garments. The second flight departed for Madrid, Spain on May 1, with approximately 58 tonnes of garments on board.

Shahnewaz Talukder said, "At present, one cargo flight is transporting garment products to Europe every week."

He further stated that the construction of a packing house in Sylhet would enhance export capacity. "If a packing house is built, it will open the door to exporting fresh vegetables to Europe," he added.

Businesses can set up packing houses on their own initiative, and the government has assured full cooperation, Shahnewaz Talukder said.

Md. Hafiz Ahmed, Director of Sylhet Osmani International Airport, said, "Three cargo flights have been operated since the launch. Plans are underway to operate two flights per week to increase export volume."
