BARISHAL, May 10, 2025 (BSS) - Shipping and Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (retd.) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain today said the government has approved the proposal of a six-lane highway project from Bhanga to Patuakhali.

The adviser informed this at a view-exchange meeting with reporters at Circuit House of the city. Labour and Employment Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman was present at the event.

Sakhawat said another major demand of constructing a bridge on the Mirganj River has also been approved. If it is built, it will facilitate communication with Barishal and its three upazilas, he added.

He said, "We have to preserve our waterways. We are trying to bring back our steamer services on the waterways. There are plans to launch at least two steamers in the next five to six months. This will be good news for those who used to travel by steamer".
