Efforts underway for safe Eid journey: Adviser

DHAKA, May 12, 2025 (BSS) – Road communication and railways adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today said the government would take every measure to ensure peoples safe journey during the upcoming Eid ul Azha holidays.

“Extra vigil will be enforced particularly at accident-prone areas to prevent road accidents. Necessary measures will be taken to ensure quick primary health care,” the adviser told reporters emerging from a meeting with officials concerned and stakeholders at Bidyut Bhaban.

Khan simultaneously warned transport operators against charging extra fare from passengers saying any such move would be dealt with seriously, exposing persons responsible to punitive legal actions.

He said representatives of relevant government institutions would monitor roads and highways round the clock to prevent extortion.

Khan, also adviser for energy affairs, said no makeshift cattle market would be allowed adjacent to major roads and highways to prevent traffic congestions while makeshift bank booths will be installed at the markets for safe money transactions.

He said that movement of trucks and covered vans would be prohibited on highways for a total of six days ahead and after the Eid, from June 4 to 6 and June 12 to 14 except for emergency services.

Local government adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, chief adviser’s special assistants for home and road transport M Khuda Baksh Chowdhury and Dr Sheik Moinuddin, different stakeholders and concerned officials were present at the meeting.
