DHAKA, May 12, 2025 (BSS) – Director General (DG) of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui today said that Indian boarder force pushed 202 individuals inside Bangladesh this month.

“As many as 202 individuals were pushed inside Bangladesh through different desolated points in the night of May 7 and 8,” he said.

BGB DG said this after emerging from an advisory council meeting on law and order at the home ministry's conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat here.

Out of those persons, the Bangladeshis, whose identity could be confirmed after verification of police, were sent to their homes through the help of administration, he said.

Of the identified Bangladeshis, some went to India two or three years back and some others 15 to 20 years ago for various work purposes, he said.

The DG said, some of those persons have Adhaar cards, unique identity number of residents of India. But, Indian police and border force pushed them inside Bangladesh taking away their cards, he said.

The BGB chief said the BSF is now denying the push back as usual.

But, he said they have lodged a complaint over the matter after holding a flag meeting.

Of the pushed back individuals, there were 29 Rohingyas and five of them were registered by UNHCR in India, he said.

“It is a complete violation of human rights,” he said, adding that the BGB registered a complaint to BSF about the matter.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) will be corresponding with the Indian External Affairs (MEA) and decide about the next course of action on the push in of the individuals, he said.

He said, Bangladesh will accept its nationals with due process.

The BSF has tried to push 200/300 more individuals inside Bangladesh in the last two days through Khagrachhari point. But, BSF could not do this due to constant patrol and vigilance of the BGB, he said.

The BSF also pushed 78 individuals inside Bangladesh through a remote char of Sundarbans. Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued them, he said.

“We are constantly keeping our watch on the frontier,” he said.
