DHAKA, May 12, 2025 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) today suspended the registration of Bangladesh Awami League.

EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed it to the reporters after a meeting of the EC.

"The decision was taken in continuation of the notification issued by the Home Ministry," he said.

A gazette notification issued today in this regard.

The EC Secretary said, "The Ministry of Home Affairs has banned the activities of Awami League and all its front, associate and brotherly organizations. In continuation of this, the Election Commission has decided to suspend the registration of Awami League".

The Home Ministry published a gazette today banning all activities of the party.

The meeting of the commission was held around 5.30 pm with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin in the chair.
