Govt provides free legal advices to 4, 79,779 justice seekers

DHAKA, May 15, 2025 (BSS) - The government through National Legal Aid 
Services Organization (NLASO) from 2009 to April, 2025, has provided free 
legal advice to 4, 79,779 justice seekers.

Confirming the matter through its monthly update on its website, the 
statutory organisation of the government under the Ministry of Law, Justice 
and Parliamentary Affairs, said 2,45,157 people were given legal advice from 
its legal aid offices in the 64 districts.

"A total of 1, 87,369 people received legal advice by calling on the national 
toll free helpline number 16430, while 25,704 people got the service from the 
Supreme Court Legal Aid Office," it added.

Apart from these, 21,549 people received free legal advice from two labour 
law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

The NLASO also realized Taka 257, 07, 21,435 as compensation for insolvent 
justice seekers during the time. Of the total amount, Taka 250, 43, 95,220 
was realized through 64 district legal aid offices, while Taka 6, 63, 26,215 
was realized through two labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

Legal aid was also given in 4, 24,181 cases, of which 4,16,495 cases received 
legal aid from district legal aid offices of the NLASO, 4,425 cases from two 
labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram and 3,261 cases from the Supreme 
Court Legal Aid Office.

A total of 2, 16,603 cases were disposed of by providing legal aid. Of the 
cases, 2, 13,508 received legal aid from district legal aid offices and 2,286 
cases were disposed of through the legal aid provided by the Supreme Court 
Legal Aid Office.

A total of 1, 27,093 inmates have received free legal aid from NLASO since 
2009.
