DHAKA, May 15, 2025 (BSS) - The German Development Cooperation has launched an Atlas on Urban Geo-Information of Dhaka Metropolitan Region.

The atlas illustrated the enduring commitment between Germany and Bangladesh to promote sustainable and climate-resilient urban development, German embassy in Dhaka said today.

This milestone was achieved through the technical cooperation project “Geoinformation for the Implementation of Climate Change Resilient Urbanization (GICU),” jointly implemented by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) and the Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB).

The Atlas provides vital geoscientific data to support evidence-based urban planning in Dhaka, helping to mitigate natural disaster risks, strengthen urban resilience, and guide sustainable growth.

German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster and Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam officially launched the Atlas at the national seminar on Geology for Sustainable Development, Planning and Climate Resilient Bangladesh on Wednesday.

Ambassador Tröster highlighted the strong German-Bangladeshi development partnership, underscoring its importance in fostering geohazard awareness and informed, climate-resilient urban planning.
