GAZIPUR, May 15, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 27 members of the former Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) were released from the Kashimpur Central Jail at about 10am today.

Relatives of the released former BDR personnel were present at the jail gate to receive them.

Jail officials confirming the release of 27 people told the journalists that those former BDR personnel were granted bail by the court on Monday last.

According to the sources, Ibrahim Miah, Judge of the Special Court at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, on Monday granted bail to 40 former BDR personnel in connection with a case filed under explosive substances act on BDR mutiny.

Mohammad Al Mamun, Superintendent of Kashimpur Central Jail told BSS that the prison authority received the bail bonds of 27 former BDR personnel on Wednesday afternoon. The jail authority released them today after verifying their papers, Al Mamun said.

Two separate cases were lodged with police following the tragic BDR mutiny at its Peelkhana headquarters on February 25 in 2009 in which 57 army officers were killed.
