DHAKA, May 15, 2025 (BSS) – The traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken various initiatives to improve and digitize the traffic system with modern equipment to ensure safe crossing of the pedestrians and smooth movement of the vehicles.

As part of the move, the traffic signal lights have been installed at three points in the metropolis in front of the National Heart Foundation, Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Road adjacent to Old Ramna police station and in front of BRAC University in Badda for safe pedestrians crossing, said a DMP press release.

In addition to the aforesaid points, pedestrian’s crossing signal lights will be installed at various zebra crossings in Dhaka metropolis in phases.

When pedestrians press the push button at the said zebra crossings, a green light signal for pedestrian crossing would automatically be displayed after a specified time and a red light signal will also be displayed for vehicles coming from both directions at the same time.

At this time, vehicles must stop at the designated place before the zebra crossing to safely cross the pedestrians. Vehicles must stop when the red light is on and pedestrians must be given the opportunity to cross the road safely.

“Appropriate legal action will be taken if vehicles do not stop when the red light is on,” it said.

At the same time, pedestrians will also have to wait for the green signal by pressing the push button and cross the road safely when the green light is on.

“In this case, if pedestrians cross the road without stopping when the red light is on and if they disobey the red light signal, legal action will be taken against the pedestrians,” it also said.

In this situation, DMP   is seeking the cooperation of vehicle drivers to stop when the red light is on at zebra crossings for the safe crossing of pedestrians and pedestrians to stop when the red light is on for the smooth movement of vehicles.

”DMP seeks everyone's cooperation in this regard,” it said.
