DMP's Bomb Data Centre gets full membership in IBDCWG

Dhaka, May 15, 2025 (BSS) - The Bomb Data Centre of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has got full membership at the 2025 annual conference of the International Bomb Data Centre Working Group (IBDCWG).

This recognition was given at the conference held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, said a DMP press release.

"This achievement is not only an international recognition; it is a symbol of the strategic progress and global leadership of Bangladesh's security system," it said.

Along with Bangladesh, Canada, Japan and Dubai also got new membership this year.

More than a hundred representatives from 45 countries around the world attended the conference.

With this prestigious achievement, Bangladesh will now get the opportunity to work with different countries worldwide in Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bomb detection, analysis and explosives prevention activities, the release said.

This is a reflection of the international platform's trust and recognition in the country's security and technical capabilities, it added.

Bangladesh was represented at the conference by two experienced officers of the DMP's Bomb Disposal Unit—Assistant Police Commissioner Md. Mahmuduzzaman and Sub-Inspector Md. Rafiq Uddin.

They discussed the explosive threat situation, modern IED trends and the strategies adopted in IED detection, decontamination and subsequent investigation, which were widely appreciated at the international level, the release added.

It is worth noting that the IBDCWG is a global collaborative platform, which plays an important role in countering modern bomb and explosive threats by exchanging information, technology and experience between Bomb Data Centres, Bomb Disposal Units and law enforcement agencies of different countries around the world.

As a full member, Bangladesh will now be able to actively contribute to this international network and participate in policy-making.

The Bomb Disposal Unit of the DMP has already played an active role in ensuring security nationwide through more than a hundred successful bomb disposals and various important operations.

By utilizing international training, modern technology and experience, this unit has become a world-class skilled and professional force.
