1,207,993 indigent litigants receive legal assistance from NLASO

DHAKA, May 18, 2025 (BSS) - The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has provided legal aid to 1,207,993 indigent litigants from 2009 to April 2025.

A report published on the NLASO website revealed that the number of beneficiaries who received legal aid at government expense was 1,207,993 from 2009 to April 2025.

Of these, 28,965 received legal aid through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 962,385 through the 64 District Legal Aid Offices across the country, 29,274 through the Dhaka and Chattogram Workers' Legal Aid Cells, and 187,369 received legal aid through the National Helpline Call Center (toll-free '16430') under the government's legal aid programme.

This service has been provided at government expense under the Legal Aid Act, with the aim of ensuring access to justice for financially indigent and disadvantaged individuals.

The activities of the National Legal Aid Services Organization are carried out under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

The government declared April 28, 2013, as National Legal Aid Day. The day is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm, promoting the government's legal aid programmes to establish the right to justice for all.
