Rampant corruption leads to establish discriminatory society: ACC chairman

MOULVIBAZAR, May 18, 2025 (BSS) – Chairman of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen has said, rampant corruption at different level of the state machinery leads to establish a discriminatory society.

“As much as corruption is down, the level of discrimination in a society will remain low,” he said.

The ACC chairman was addressing a public hearing of the commission at Shilpakala academy here today.

The public hearing was organized in collaboration with the local administration and the corruption prevention committee.

The hearing was arranged aimed at assessing the public perception about the ACC services in the district and curbing the spate of corruption in public offices to provide people hassle free services.

The ACC chairman urged all to be united against corruption and keep their mind free from doing any corrupt practice. 

“We knowledgably agree to pay bribe to get services. But should come out of the practice,” he said adding that as much as the level of corruption will be lowered, the role of ACC will be shrank.”

Dr Momen said, Service providers and service recipients at all levels should work sincerely to declare Moulvibazar a bribe and corruption free district.

Brigadier General (Retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid, ACC Director General (Prevention) Akhter Hossain, officials of ACC Integrated District Office Habiganj and senior officials were present.

The ACC chairman heard a total of 58 complaints against 18 government departments during the public hearing. 

Among them, the complaint of irregularities against the headmaster of Hafiza Khatun Girls' High School was taken into cognizance for investigation.
