DHAKA, June 22, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Film Archive has a collection of 5,445 locally and foreign-made films.
Of these, 318 are black-and-white films and 5,127 are colour films. These films are preserved in six state-of-the-art vaults of the Film Archive, said a press release here today.
The oldest film in the archive's collection is The LumiSre Brothers, a foreign film made in 1895. The vast collection of the Film Archive includes popular titles such as Dhrub (1934), Devdas (1935), Mukh O Mukhosh (1956), A Desh Tomar Amar (1959), Assia (1960), Kohno Asheni (1961), Suryasnan (1962), Dharapat (1963), Sutarang (1964), Onek Diner Chena (1964), Dui Diganta (1964), and Roopban (1965).
In addition to collecting and preserving films, the Film Archive has taken initiatives to convert analog classical films into digital format. As part of this effort, 160 films have been converted so far. Other classical films will be digitized in phases.
Established in 1978, Bangladesh Film Archive is a national institution entrusted with collecting and preserving films.
