Deal signed for 6th Bangladesh-China bridge renovation

DHAKA, June 26, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) and China International Economic Cooperation Agency (CIECA) today signed an agreement for renovation of the 6th Bangladesh-China Friendship (Mukterpur) Bridge.

Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Kazi Md Ferdaus and Director General of CIECA under China's Ministry of Commerce Zhang Guanbin signed the deal on behalf their respective sides.

The agreement signing ceremony was held at the Bridges Division's conference room while secretary of Bridges Division and executive director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf witnessed it as the chief guest.

Rouf said the renovation will be financed by China, and once completed, it is expected to enhance the flow of traffic and significantly reduce public sufferings.

He said the initiative aligns with the guidance of adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan.

Rouf sought all cooperation of local people and drivers of motor vehicles for smooth management of traffic during the renovation work of the bridge.

Senior officials of Bridges Division, Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Economic Relations Division, Chinese Embassy, and representatives involved in the renovation project were also present at the event.
