MANIKGANJ, June 28, 2025(BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said timely vaccination is needed to prevent the diseases of the cattle.
"Prevention of diseases is a big challenge in raising cattle," she said while inaugurating a vaccination programme in four districts for curbing the lameness of the cattle heads through a virtual programme at Joynagar Government Primary School here as chief guest.
Acting secretary to the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Md Tofazzal Hossain addressed the function as special guest, said an official release.
Chaired by the Director General (DG) of the Livestock Directorate Dr Md Abu Sufian, the function was addressed, among others, by Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj Dr Monwar Hossain Molla, Police Super Yasmin Khatun, Director of the Livestock Directorate Dr Md Boyzar Hossain, project director Dr Amar Joyti Chakma and District Livestock Officer Dr Mohammad Mujibur Rahman.
The vaccines are given to the cattle to keep them away from diseases and ensuring their good health, not only for increasing the production of meat or its export, the adviser said.
She urged the veterinary officers to give their maximum services to the farmers.
The farmers are being seriously affected as they are not getting fair price of the milk, Farida Akhter said, adding that it is very urgent to set up chilling centres with government subsidy at different strategic points of the country.
She called upon the non-government organizations to come forward in this regard.
Acting secretary to the ministry Tofazzal Hossain said the role of farmers is very important in ensuring food security and economic advancement of the country.
The success of a project is dependent on the cooperation of the farmers, he said, adding that the production of the farmers has been ensuring the food security and strong economic foundation of the country.
