DHAKA, July 6, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said misinformation is being spread on his party's reform stance.

"BNP is a clean political party. A malicious group is portraying BNP as anti-reform party and it's important to know about their motives," he told the newsmen at a press conference at the party's Gulshan office here.

Fakhrul said there should be no doubt about their ill intentions.

"Our goal is clear: we want to re-establish the democracy that Sheikh Hasina has suppressed for the past 15 years," he said.

He added that those who want to delay elections are not promoter of democracy.

About activities of the Consensus Commission, the BNP secretary general said there is much interest and expectation with some feelings of frustration.

He reiterated BNP's eagerness to establish consensus, saying that the party's representatives are assisting the commission in taking proper decisions with logical arguments.

The veteran BNP leader said various new proposals are emerging, which the people would welcome if they serve the people's interests.

He also cautioned against bringing significant changes on the matter of public interest without involving people.

He reiterated his party's stance on elections saying those who want to delay elections they are not pro-democracy force and are not supporters of July-August uprising.

The BNP secretary general urged everyone to contribute to nation-building work being above party interests.

Regarding the July Proclamation, he said, "We have already given our opinion on the July Proclamation. There has been no further discussion on this matter since then. However, the BNP is ready for discussion."
