Farida for reinforcing vaccination in curbing livestock diseases

SHAHJADPUR, Sirajganj, July 6, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today underscored the need for reinforcing vaccination programme aiming at curbing Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) for protecting the health of the livestock of the country.

“These two types of disease are very much harmful for the livestock and it may cause huge financial losses for the farmers,” she said.

The adviser said this while exchanging views with different section officials of the Sirajganj district livestock department at the conference room of the Bhagabarighat  milk factory here.

Regarding the elimination of these diseases, the livestock adviser said the government would go forward to curb the diseases through taking proper plan and vaccination programme.

The livestock adviser said that none can say that the hide of the sacrificial animals has been damaged due to Lumpy Skin Disease.

She gave the people concerned instructions to reinforce vaccination programme at the field level in Pabna-Sirajganj region and no excuse would be accepted in this regard.

So, the livestock officials and employees should ensure maximum cooperation in this regard.

Participating in the programme, director general of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Dr M Abu Sufian said Pabna and Sirajganj district are rich with the livestock resources. Livestock officials and employees should work with outmost sincerity aiming to announce the district free from FMD and LSD.

He also asked the concerned officials for taking effective initiative to this end.

Joint secretary of the fisheries and livestock ministry M Hemayet Hossen, DLS director (Extension) Begum Shamsunnahar Ahmad,  Director (production) Dr ABM Khaleduzzaman,  LDDP project director Dr M Jashim Uddin, LDDP project Chief Technical Coordinator M Golam Rabbani, district livestock officer Dr  AKM Anwarul Huq and livestock officials and veterinary doctors, among others, were present.
