18-member committee formed to amend existing fire prevention rules

DHAKA, July 9, 2025 (BSS) - The government has formed an 18-member new committee to amend the Fire Prevention and Extinction Rules, 2014.

The Home Ministry on Tuesday issued an office order signed by its Senior Assistant Secretary of the Fire-2 Branch of the Security Services Division Asma-UL-Husna in this connection.
 
Additional Secretary (Security and External Media) of the Home Ministry has been appointed as the chairman of the committee. 

Other members of the committee include Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, one each representative of the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakhya (RAJUK), Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA), Gazipur Development Authority (GDA), Department of Architecture, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), among others.

According to the office order, the committee has been entrusted with examining and amending the 'Fire Prevention and Extinguishing Rules 2014' approved by the Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate under the Security Services Division.

The committee will examine the existing Fire Prevention and Extinguishing Rules 2014 and formulate a revised rule that will be time worthy and will submit the draft to the Security Services Division within two months. 

The committee can increase the number of members if necessary.
