DU takes programs to celebrate July mass uprising

DHAKA, July 13, 2025 (BSS)- Dhaka University (DU) authorities have announced a comprehensive series of programs to commemorate the first anniversary of the historic July Mass Uprising.

Treasurer of DU and convener of the July Mass Uprising Reawakening Programs M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced the program today at a press conference at Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom.

Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed and Mizanur Rahman, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Member Secretary of the committee, were present.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, DU has undertaken extensive measures to observe the first anniversary of the historic July Mass Uprising. Additionally, a joint initiative titled "July Mass Uprising Reawakening Programs-2025" is being organized by DU and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

The July Mass Uprising Reawakening Programs will be inaugurated tomorrow at 6:30 pm.

"July Women's Day" will be celebrated tomorrow on DU campus. This event will feature audio-visual presentations, cultural performances, and a drone show. 

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Dhaka University, and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will jointly implement the programs. 

And commemorative event for teachers and students will be held on July 17. A larger celebration of July Mass Uprising Day is planned for August 5, he added.

To mark the anniversary a seminar will be held in each faculty focusing on the July mass uprising. Separate discussion/seminars will be organized in residential halls, departments, and institutes, a two-day inter-departmental debate festival with the theme "July Uprising: Voice of Youth," and an essay competition for students based on their experiences of the July Mass Uprising will organized.
