Abu Sayed dedicated his life for truth, justice: BRUR VC

RANGPUR, July 14, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali has said that martyred Abu Sayed dedicated his life for truth and justice. 
 
"The ideals of martyred Abu Sayed will inspire our young generation to move forward on the path of fairness, reason and humanity," he said at the closing function of a debate competition as the chief guest.
 
The BRUR authority in association with the Department of Narcotics Control, Rangpur organised the two-day "Inter-departmental Debate Competition-2025" in memory of martyred Abu Sayed with the theme "Against injustice, fearless explosion of argument". 
 
Students from all 22 departments under six faculties of the university participated in the debate competition. 
 
The final phase of this competition was held on Sunday afternoon at the Independence Memorial Ground of the university. 
 
The Department of Sociology and the Department of Statistics came out as the champion and as the runner-up teams in the inter-departmental debate competition. 
 
Convener of the inter-departmental debate competition in memory of Shaheed Abu Sayed and Director of the Student Affairs Office Prof Dr Md Ilias Pramanik presided over the closing function.
 
The VC said that the debate competition is a positive step towards increasing good relations with students and other stakeholders of the university. Debate is an art through which one can present one's views and arguments to others, he added. 
 
"After taking over the administrative responsibility, I have given importance to co-curricular activities along with keeping the academic activities of the university dynamic," he said.
 
Dr Showkat Ali said, "We have started this inter-departmental debate competition today in the memory of Martyred Abu Sayed, which is a brilliant exercise in rational thinking."
 
Additional Director of the Department Narcotics Control for Rangpur Md Masud Hossain, the university's Registrar Dr Md Harun-or Rashid, teachers, students and concerned persons from various departments, attended the function.
