DHAKA, July 14, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said those who speak against Tarique Rahman are enemies of democracy.

“We want to inform everyone that we have no compromise on the issue of democracy. I condemn all those so-called political leaders who have spoken obscene and inaudible words about Tarique Rahman,” he told a rally prior to a protest procession in front of Nayapaltan central office of BNP.

BNP North-South organized the programme jointly to demand exemplary punishment for the killing of Lalchand Sohag in Mitford area and to protest the falsehood and propaganda against the party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Leaders and activists from various wards of the metropolitan BNP took part in the protest procession that ended at the Jatiya Press Club through Bijoy Nagar.

Mirza Fakhrul urged the party men not to utter any obscene words and make any indecent things in retaliation against those spoke against Tarique Rahman.

“We must keep this in mind. If they utter obscene and indecent things against our leader, it does not diminish his dignity rather it diminishes those who say such obscene things,” he said.

The BNP Secretary General said, “We will move forward with strong unity that we have, despite the humiliation, torture and oppression we have been subjected to for the past 15 years.”

He called upon all patriotic political parties to be united for the sake of democracy and move forward together.

Strongly condemning the brutal killing of Lalchand Sohag in Mitford area on Wednesday, Fakhrul demanded exemplary punishment of those involved with the incident thorough investigation.

“Those who are doing this (brutal murder) are doing so to destroy Bangladesh,” he said.

Fakhrul urged the party leaders and workers not to fall into someone's trap as evil attempts are under to provoke the BNP activists to fall into their trap.

"Our goal now is that the February 2026 election will be held .There will be no exception to this," he said.

Fakhrul said they (those speak against Tarique Rahman) have become insane since the election was decided.

“Their plan is very terrible as they want to create instability in Bangladesh again, to create unrest, to create division, to bring Bangladesh to a place where democracy will be lost again,” he said.

He urged the party activists to face all the situations patiently.

Speaking on the occasion, BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas said BNP is a popular party as the people of the country love this party.

“This party cannot be easily removed from the minds of the people no matter how many conspiracies they make,” he said.
Coming down heavily on Islami Andolon Amir and Charmonai Pir Syed Rezaul Karim for making criticism against BNP, the BNP leader questioned when the Hefazat-e-Islam rally was attacked at Shapla Chattar in 2013, where was this Charmonai Pir Sahib?

“Did he stand for the Muslims? He did not stand. Who stood? BNP stood?” he said.

Abbas also castigated Jamaat-e-Islam saying the party leaders make only bigger talks but “take bribes in a clever way, and take gifts in a clever way. They took money from Bashundhara, City Group.”

He said during Ershad's time, Jamaat relied on Ershad's shoulders, during Awami League, they relied on Awami League's shoulders and during BNP they relied on BNP's shoulders.

“Now their only headache is BNP. If BNP can be eliminated, then they can rule. They cannot tolerate Tarique Rahman,” he said.

He also heavily criticized National Citizen Party saying the party leaders are now talking about Tarique Rahman and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

Dhaka City South BNP President Rafiqul Alam Majnu chaired the rally which was moderated by Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin
