JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, July 23, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) is set to host a five-day cultural festival titled 'July Gatha' to commemorate the historic July Uprising and the fall of autocrat Hasina on July 36, a day now symbolically observed as a stand against autocracy.

Announcing the event at a press conference held at the teachers' lounge of the central cafeteria today, Prof Jamal Uddin, Director of the Students' Counselling and Guidance Centre, said the festival will run from July 29 to August 2 at the university's Muktamancha, in collaboration with various JU-based cultural organisations.

"The festival aims to uphold and celebrate the spirit of the July movement through powerful cultural expressions. It will feature a vibrant mix of performances, including music, theatre, poetry recitation and traditional art forms," he added.

He hoped that several prominent cultural troupes from Dhaka would be expected to join the celebration and perform alongside JU-based cultural groups, making it a diverse and colourful affair.
