Tarique Rahman extends thank to interim government

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman expressed his sincere gratitude to the head of the interim government Professor Dr Yunus, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said.

He (Tarique Rahman) also extended thanks to the advisory council members and all the concerned members who are involved in this process for taking the necessary measures and taking the initiative to smooth the path to democracy despite many adversities in the past one year, Fakhrul Islam said.

He was addressing a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan political office here.

Mirza Fakhrul said that BNP welcomes the announcement of the election date in February 2026. BNP believes that this historic announcement will overcome the political deadlock in Bangladesh and pave the way for the transition to democracy, he added.

The Secretary General said BNP believes that the government and the Election Commission will take all measures to make the election fair, free, impartial and acceptable to all. 

He urged all political parties and the people to make this election successful, institutionalize democracy and form an effective national parliament.

Mirza Fakhrul further said that BNP is praying for eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs of July Uprising and wishing early recovery of injured. 

He urged the government to take measures for the full compensation and better treatment of the families of the martyrs.

He said BNP expresses its sincere thanks and gratitude to Tarique Rahman for successfully leading the democratic movement for eight long years.

The Secretary General said, "Let us build a prosperous Bangladesh dreamt by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the democratic Bangladesh of the lifelong struggle of the national leader Begum Khaleda Zia, and the modern, humane, democratic Bangladesh of the young leader Tarique Rahman. Let us fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people."
