Foundation stone of JU Fine Arts Faculty building laid

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Nov 26, 2025 (BSS) - The foundation stone of the proposed Fine Arts Faculty building at Jahangirnagar University (JU) was laid today by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan around 2:30 pm.

Speaking on the occasion, JU VC thanked the University Grants Commission (UGC) and all concerned for their cooperation. 

"I hope the construction will be completed within the stipulated time," he said, adding that the new building would help ease classroom shortages and ensure better academic facilities for students. 

He also stressed maintaining transparency and quality in the construction work.

Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr. Sohel Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr. M AbdurRab, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr. Md Mozammel Haque, Chairman of the Fine Arts Department Prof Dr. Mohammad Shamim Reza, and the project director and Fine Arts Department Prof Dr. M. M. Maizuddin, JUCSU VP Abdur Rashid Jitu, Joint General Secretary Ferdous Al Hasan, officials and employees were present.

Project Director Prof Dr. M. M. Maizuddin said the proposed faculty building would be constructed as a 6-storey structure on a 6-storey foundation. Around 1,000 students from six departments will have classroom facilities in the new building. 

The estimated cost of the project is Tk 96 crore 96 lakh 29 thousand and the construction is expected to be completed by June 2028, he added.
