DHAKA, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Embassy in Rome on Tuesday observed the July Mass Uprising Day with due solemnity and reverence, commemorating the student-led movement of 2024 that triumphed over fascist misrule in Bangladesh.

Marking the occasion, the Embassy organized a commemorative programme attended by members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community living in Italy, according to a message received here today.

The event began with a one-minute silence in memory of those martyred during the 2024 uprising.

Messages issued by the Bangladesh President and Chief Adviser on the occasion were read out to the participants.

A documentary on the July Mass Uprising was screened, and the Embassy premises featured a special exhibition of graffiti and photographs highlighting the pivotal role of students and the general public in the democratic movement.

Prominent Bangladeshi expatriates and community leaders took part in a discussion session, reflecting on the significance of the day.

Speakers underscored the remarkable contributions of expatriates to the movement and called for official recognition of their role.

They also lauded the Embassy's recent initiatives aimed at enhancing consular services and ensuring the welfare of the Bangladeshi community in Italy.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy Md Rakibul Haque, in his address, paid deep tribute to the martyrs and wished a speedy recovery for those injured during the uprising.

The Ambassador praised the expatriate community's role in the country's socio-economic development through remittance contributions and their active participation in the July movement.

He called on all Bangladeshi nationals abroad to remain united in the spirit of the uprising and work collectively toward building a nation based on justice and equality.

The programme concluded with a special prayer for the salvation of the departed souls, recovery of the injured, and continued peace and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh.
