BSS chairman facilitates treatment to over 2,000 eye patients

KHULNA, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS) - Chairman of Board of Directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and Joint Editor of the Daily Ittefaq Anwar Aldin today facilitated treatment to over 2,000 eye patients of his locality as part of an ongoing humanitarian initiative.

The eye patients were provided free treatment through an eye treatment and cataract surgery camp in Nagar Sreerampur in Paikgacha Upazila of Khulna at the initiative of the Zia Primary Health Care Center under the overall supervision of Anwar Aldin.

From 9am to 1am, a 12-member medical team comprising experienced specialist doctors and nurses from BRAC and Khulna BNSB Eye Hospital treated the patients as a number of cataract patients have undergone free surgeries.

Surgery patients also receive free sunglasses and a one-month supply of necessary medications as the camp was funded by sightsavers. 

This is the largest eye care camp ever held in the area.

 

Dr. Abdul Majid, convener of Paikgacha Upazila BNP, presided over the ceremony, while Anwar Aldin addressed as the chief guest.

Senior leaders of the district unit BNP including KM Ashraful Alam Nannu, Sheikh Shamsul Alam Pintu, Abul Hossain, Tushar Kanti Mondal, Sheikh Anarul Islam, Mir Shafayet Hossain, Akij Uddin, Shahidul Islam, Akaram Jowardar, Huraira Badsha, Shahidur Rahman, Azaharul Islam Gazi, Suman Kazi, Sheikh Abdul Gafur, Jahangir Gazi, Sheikh Billal, Gazi Zahid, Khan Masum, Mostafa Moral, and Kabir Gazi, among others, addressed the event.

The medical team included renowned doctors Dr. Hafizur Rahman Ashik, Dr. Asif Hasan, Dr. Habibullah, Dr. Ayon, Dr. Ashiq, and Dr. Fuad.

People from all walks of life including the poor and underprivileged from Paikgacha, Koyra, and nearby areas came to receive free eye treatment. 

The services included free eye examinations, consultations by experienced eye specialists, and free distribution of eyeglasses and necessary medicines. 

Patients who had lost vision due to cataracts were identified for surgery and IOL (Intraocular Lens) implantation. The diagnostic process included free testing for eye pressure, blood pressure, diabetes, etc. After comprehensive testing, over 500 patients were finally selected for free cataract surgery.

Anwar Aldin said, "This camp has been organized as part of our social responsibility to serve ordinary people. Many people suffer from visual problems but cannot afford treatment. That is why we arranged this free eye camp. The enthusiastic participation of people from all backgrounds has encouraged us greatly. We plan to organize more such initiatives in the future."

One of the patients, Anwara Khatun, said, "I had problems with my eyes but couldn't afford treatment. Today, I received a doctor's consultation and even got selected for surgery free of cost. This initiative is a blessing for the poor. We hope such programs continue in the future."

BSS Chairman Anwar Aldin has long been engaged in various charitable, welfare, and developmental activities in the region. 

He has set up beautifully designed mosques, madrasas, orphanages, Quran memorization centers, clinics, roads, and drainage systems. 

He played a historic role in freeing a 10-kilometer-long government-owned Nasirpur canal from illegal occupation after 30 years, making it accessible to the people.

Additionally, Anwar Aldin regularly distributes winter clothes to the people in need during winter season, provides meat to thousands of underprivileged people during Eid-ul-Adha, and distributes food during Eid-ul-Fitr as part of his various social welfare programs.
