NTV to air special drama ‘Joya’ marking ‘World Indigenous Day’

DHAKA, Aug 7, 2025 (BSS) – On the occasion of the upcoming World Indigenous Peoples Day on August 9, NTV will air a special drama titled ‘Joya’ on Friday night.

The drama has been written and directed by Shuvashis Sinha. It portrays the journey of a young Manipuri woman named Joya, who was raised in the city. 

One day, her mother, at her deathbed, revealed a surprising truth about Joya’s identity. 

Feeling connection with her roots, Joya sets out for a Manipuri village in search of her heritage where she meets the storyteller Kanaai, and gradually a melancholic and deeply emotional life story begins to unfold. 

The lead role of Joya is played by Jyoti Sinha, while Gaurahari Chatterjee played the role of Kanaai. 

Other casts include Nirmal Kumar Sinha, Anjana Sinha, Sajal Kanti Singh, Swarnali Sharma, Chayon, Samarjit, Shashwati, along with members of Manipuri Theatre and the Manipuri community.

The cinematography of ‘Joya’ was made by Abid Mallik, with Uttam Kumar Singh as the producer.

Sajal Kanti Singh serves as the art director, Sharmila Sinha as music composer, and editing is handled by Foysal Nipoon.
 
Assistant direction is done by John William. The production company is Tahara.
