Probe body formed to verify specifications of 30 railway locomotives purchase

Dhaka, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS) - The Ministry of Railways has formed an investigation committee to verify the specifications of 30 meter gauge locomotive purchases for Bangladesh Railway (BR).

The committee will verify the draft specifications prepared taking into account the performance of locomotives and components, modern technology, energy efficiency, availability of spare parts, international acceptance, usability in the environment of Bangladesh and so on and submit a report to the ministry within the next 15  working days.

Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for Road Transport and Bridges Ministry and Railways Ministry Dr. Sheik Moinuddin was made convener of the committee while BR’s additional director general as member secretary.

Other members are BR director general, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) managing director and a professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

 In addition, the committee can co-opt members if necessary.

The procurement process of 30 meter gauge locomotives is under process under the project titled 'Conversion of Chattogram-Dohazari meter gauge railway into dual gauge railway' being implemented by Bangladesh Railway. 

BR has prepared draft specifications for this procurement process.
