CHATTOGRAM, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS)- Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun has said the capacity of Chattogram Port will increase significantly if the ongoing renovation work is implemented.

BIDA chairman said this while talking to reporters after inaugurating the 'Shipping and Logistics Online Desk' at Gate No. 4 of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) today.

Magnetism Tech Limited in collaboration with the port authority will operate the desk.

The Chairman said container handling capacity has increased by 30 percent and the waiting time of ships has been reduced by 13 hours after the Bangladesh Navy took over the management of the NCT.

“As a result, corruption and harassment in using the port are also decreasing significantly,” he added.

The BIDA Chairman also said that the government aims to finalize the appointment of foreign operators at the country's major ports by December this year.

The ultimate goal of the government is to appoint operators for all three ports in the country by the end of the year, he said.

The NCT project will introduce modern container handling facilities, digital monitoring systems and improved security systems, he added.

BIDA chairman said the daily cargo transportation capacity from the port is expected to be doubled through the expansion of the Bay Terminal.

The Laldia development project is gaining special importance in Chattogram Port, where new jetties, improved waterways, container handling equipment and security systems will be installed.

Once the expansion of Laldia is completed, more large ships will be able to anchor simultaneously and the time for loading and unloading goods will be reduced by half.

After the briefing, the chairman inspected the renovation work of the port and inaugurated the vehicle and container digital exchange system.

Port Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman and senior officials were present.
