MYMENSINGH, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), the country's premier institution for agricultural education, today celebrated its 65th founding anniversary here with various programmes including joyous rally, releasing fish fry and planting tree sapling.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr. AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan declared the inauguration of the day at 9.30 am today.
The national flag and the university flag were hoisted at the university helipad along with the national anthem during the time.
Later, the joyful rally was inaugurated by flying pigeons and balloons. The rally started from the helipad and ended at the eastern place via Botanical Garden Road in front of the Central Library.
Teachers, officials, employees, students and members of various organisations of the university participated in the procession.
Later, fish fry were released in the Brahmaputra River and the lake adjacent to Isha Khan Hall next to the university.
In addition, saplings were handed over to the hall proctors for tree plantation in the residential halls.
At 10:30 am, a discussion meeting titled "64 Years of Glory of Bangladesh Agricultural University: Achievements and Prospects" was held at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Room of the university.
In the meeting, the deans of various faculties presented the research, achievements and future plans of their respective faculties.
The VC was present at the meeting as the chief guest while BAU Student Affairs Advisor Prof Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque was in the chair.
Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof Dr. GM Mujibur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Prof Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman, Member-Secretary of the Higher Education and Research Committee Prof Dr. Md. Shamsul Alam, Acting Registrar Dr. Md. Helal Uddin, Treasurer Prof Dr. Humayun Kabir, Director of Planning and Development Branch Prof Dr. Md. Mosharraf Uddin Bhuiyan, University Proctor Prof Dr. Md. Abdul Alim and teachers, officers and employees of various faculties were present, among others.
At the event, Dr. AK Fazlul Haque said the journey of BAU started on August 18, 1961 with two faculties. Today, it has taken a unique position in the world through various research and activities including ensuring the country's food security, producing skilled agriculturists, and inventing new crops and hybrid animals.
