Innovation lab, smart classroom inaugurated at DU Japanese Studies Department

DHAKA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - 'Syed Mahmudul Haque ICT and Innovation Lab' and a 'Smart Classroom' have been inaugurated at Dhaka University (DU) Japanese Studies Department here.

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi formally inaugurated the lab and the classroom as the chief guest at a function at the department's auditorium on DU campus today, said a press release. 

Japanese Studies Department Associate Professor Dr Abdullah Al-Mamun presided over the function while former High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India Liaquat Ali Choudhury, Secretary (Bilateral Relations) of Foreign Affairs Ministry Dr Md Nazrul Islam and Director of Japan Solartech Bangladesh Limited Syed Samiul Haque were present as special guests.

DU Japanese Studies Department Chairman Dr Lopamudra Malek delivered the welcome address.

Faculty members, students, and representatives from Japan-based institutions also attended the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Japanese Ambassador Saida Shinichi said the modernized lab and classroom, equipped with advanced technology and devices would play a vital role in preparing competent graduates. 

Noting that the number of Bangladeshi students pursuing higher education in Japan has increased significantly in recent years, he said Japan always stays beside the people of Bangladesh.

Saida Shinichi assured that Japanese government cooperation in improving education and research at the Dhaka University would continue in the future. The Japanese ambassador hoped that through the cooperation in education and research, the friendly relations between the two countries would be strengthened further.

Director of Japan Solartech Bangladesh Limited Syed Samiul Haque helped modernize the lab and classroom. Samiul is the son of Dhaka University alumnus Syed Mahmudul Haque.
