DHAKA, August 20, 2025 (BSS) —A meeting was held today in the conference room of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism regarding the appointment of Exclusive General Sales Agent (GSA) for foreign operators providing commercial air transport services in Bangladesh.
Adviser of the Ministries of Civil Aviation and Tourism Sk Bashir Uddin presided over the meeting.
At the outset, the adviser reaffirmed that the government is committed to protecting the national interest and ensuring justice and fairness in the aviation sector.
The Adviser expressed serious concern over reported irregularities, including the creation of artificial ticket scarcity, unjustified fare increases and practices that may facilitate human trafficking.
Regarding the appointment of GSA, the stakeholders proposed making it optional, allowing airlines the flexibility to decide based on their operational requirements and business strategies.
The discussions centred on around three priority areas.
First, voluntary compliance is to be strictly ensured by all stakeholders.
Second, the supervisory structure is to be strengthened to enable more effective monitoring of airline operations, ensuring accountability and operational efficiency.
Third, regulatory changes should be considered with the aim of enhancing transparency, promoting fairness, and safeguarding passenger welfare.
The Bangladesh Airline Representatives (BAR) was designated to take the lead in coordinating with stakeholders under the guidance of the Ministry in this regard.
Personnel representing the airline operators expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet the Adviser and conveyed their willingness to cooperate fully with the government’s initiatives.
The meeting concluded with the Adviser thanks to all participants and reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to upholding the interests of the people.
