Govt wants to spread all types of sports nationwide: Asif Mahmud

RANGPUR, Aug 20, 2025 (BSS) - Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib  Bhuyain today said that the interim government wants to spread all types of sports nationwide. 
 
“People at the marginal levels are interested in sports. Using that interest as strength, we want to spread all sports. Opportunities are being created for new players by organizing upazila-based tournaments,” he said. 
 
Asif Mahmud, also Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser, said this as the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of the final game of the ‘July 36 Gold Cup Football Tournament- 2025’ at Rangpur Stadium this afternoon. 
 
The district administration and the district sports organization jointly organized this tournament at the city's Rangpur Stadium from July 28 with the theme "Change the country, change the world". 
 
Eight football teams with one each from all eight upazilas of the district participated in the football tournament. 
 
The chief guest said that if such tournaments are held in every district, local culture and sports will spread and talented players who can represent the national team will emerge from the marginal level. 
 
He called upon all concerned to organize such competitions to encourage local players. 
 
Md Mokbul Hossain, father of Abu Sayeed, who embraced martyrdom in police firing in the July Uprising, Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Police Aminul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, were present as special guests at the event.
