MYMENSINGH, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh has introduced an online vehicle requisition and GPS tracking system to modernize and reduce the bare bones of its transport services.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr. AK Fazlul Hoque Bhuiyan inaugurated this facility this noon.

He thanked the ICT Cell and all concerned for their innovative contribution towards the welfare of the university and said the initiative has marked a new milestone for BAU's transport services.

Director of BAU's ICT Cell Prof Dr. Md Rostam Ali explained the details of the initiative to the students.

He said teachers, officials and employees of the university can now easily requisite vehicles through their ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) institutional management profile.

"The system will display vehicle numbers, driver names and availability in real time, enabling users to book vehicles with just a single click," the ICT Cell official added.

The software for the requisition process has been fully developed by the university's ICT Cell in line with the transport section's requirements, he continued.

Meanwhile, the GPS tracking component was implemented using 20 devices purchased earlier by the Agricultural Cluster Admission Committee for securing exam documents. Instead of remaining idle, the devices are now being repurposed for transport service.

Currently, four long-distance buses have been equipped with GPS trackers, and the facility will gradually be extended to all university vehicles upon approval of the authorities.

The system is accessible via both Android and iOS platforms which will allow real-time tracking of vehicles and quick identification of locations during accidents or emergencies.

VC Prof AK Fazlul Hoque Bhuiyan joined the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest while Student Affairs Adviser Prof Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque was present as special guest with Director of the Transport Section of BAU Prof Dr. Md. Gulzarul Aziz in the chair.

Acting Treasurer Prof Md. Humayun Kabir, General Secretary of Teachers' Association Prof Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman Sarkar and General Secretary of Sonali Dal Prof Dr. Ahmad Khairul Hasan, among others, were also present at the event.
