KHULNA, August 21, 2025 (BSS) – Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, has said that the government is working to modernise every industry with advanced technology.
“In the era of modern information technology, every industry is undergoing transformation,” he said today as the chief guest during a view-exchange meeting with officials in the conference room of Bangladesh Cable Shilpa Limited after visiting the company.
He said Bangladesh Cable Shilpa Limited (Bakshi) produces different types of cables. Therefore, the organisation must continue to replace old technology with new innovations. At the same time, an effective marketing policy and network need to be developed.
He added that, considering communication and other sectors, the country needs a fiber optic cable network of 5 lakh kilometres.
He, however, said that currently there are only about 1.5 lakh kilometres of fiber network. Moreover, 75 percent of the existing network is overhead, which remains vulnerable during various disasters.
To ensure a more reliable and safer communication network, the connections must be moved underground, he said.
In addition, it is now time to bring the fragmented and outdated cable networks of different public and private service sectors under a unified fiber optic network.
For this reason, the fiber optic cable industry in Bangladesh has enormous potential, he added.
Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority A.K.M. Amirul Islam, Bakshi’s Managing Director Md Shahidul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) of Khulna Nurul Hai Mohammad Anas, Bakshi officials, and CBA leaders were present.
Later, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb visited the divisional offices of Teletalk Bangladesh, the Divisional Postmaster General, and BTCL in Khulna.
