ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) - Students of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia formed a 25-member committee to initiate a movement for establishing a roadmap for the Islamic University Central Students Union (ICSU).

Following the successful movement by students of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University (BRUR) regarding their central students' union, IU students are also seeking a clear roadmap for the ICSU from the university administration.

All stakeholders of active cultural and political organizations on campus held discussions for two consecutive days and finalized the initial committee on Saturday at the TSCC corridor.

The committee represents all major campus organizations and will announce the roadmap for the ICSU movement in due course.

Chhatra Dal IU unit Convenor Sahed Ahammed, Chhatra Shibir President Mahmudul Hasan, former SAD Coordinator SM Sweet, Chhatra Union Secretary Ahmad Galib, Islami Chhatra Andolan President Ismail Hossain Rahat and Khelafat Chhatra Majlis President Sadek Ahmed, along with other students, participated in the discussion.

Students also raised demands regarding the active participation of regular students in ICSU, punishment for Sajid's murder, accountability of teachers and officials who opposed the July-August movement, enhanced student safety and inclusion of minorities in the union.

IU Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali said, "To form ICSU, all parties must stay united under one platform. If students remain consistent in their demand, there will be no obstacle to forming ICSU. As university authorities, we will do everything to facilitate this process."

Though the Islamic University Act 1980 does not explicitly provide for a student union, students are determined to see the ICSU established.
