BGB arrests 188, seizes arms, drugs in two-month drive in Naikshongchhari

COX'S BAZAR, Sept 15, 2025 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized a huge quantity of drugs, recovered weapons, and other items at Naikshongchhari border in Cox's Bazar and Bandarban over the last two months.

BGB Ramu Sector Commander Colonel Mohammad Mohiuddin Ahmed said BGB members seized drugs worth Taka 88.9 crore and arrested 188 people for their involvement in smuggling activities during this period. 

Talking to journalists at the border conference centre of BGB's Urmi Rest House adjacent to Cox's Bazar sea beach today, he said BGB members guarding the Myanmar border in Cox's Bazar and Bandarban have remained constantly alert.

He said the BGB conducted a total of 147 operations in various border areas of the two districts from July 15 to September 15 this year. 

During these operations, the paramilitary force seized 28 lakh yaba tablets, 816 kg of crystal meth, 168 cans of beer, 365.75 liters of locally produced liquor, and 2,425 kg of marijuana. 

The forces also recovered six locally made single-barrel guns, one double-barrel gun, one foreign-made revolver, one foreign-manufactured weapon, one long-barrel gun, three LG guns, one shooter pistol, two foreign-made pistols, one AK-47 rifle, one SLR, two G-3 rifles, one MA-1, one LM-16, four hand grenades, and a large number of bullets and shells. 

The sector commander said 226 Burmese cows valued at Taka 3.78 crore and other smuggled goods worth Taka 6.72 crore were seized during different operations.
