3-level security to ensure safe Durga Puja celebrations: IGP

DHAKA, Sept 17, 2025 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam today said the upcoming Durga Puja will be celebrated safely and delightfully as police will implement a three-level security system at puja mandaps across the country.

“The police will remain on high alert to ensure security at the puja mandaps,” he said.

The police chief made the remarks while presiding over a law and order and security meeting on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja 2025 at the Hall of Pride of the Police Headquarters this morning.

This year, Durga Puja will be celebrated at 31,566 mandaps across the country from September 21 to October 2.

The IGP said police will take security measures in three phases – pre-puja, during puja and idol immersion, and post-puja – to ensure peaceful celebrations.

“Security activities for the festival have already started,” he added.

The IGP expressed hope that with the collective efforts of all, the upcoming Durga Puja will be celebrated safely and without any hindrance in a festive and joyful atmosphere.

“We’re seeking everyone's cooperation in this regard,” he said.

The police are making efforts to ensure that no one can cause any untoward incident during Durga Puja, he said.

To avoid any untoward situation, the leaders of the Puja Udjapan Parishad are requested to contact the National Emergency Service 999 or the nearest police station.

Leaders of the Puja Udjapan Parishad have been urged to keep CCTV cameras operational during Durga Puja and ensure round-the-clock volunteer security at each mandap.

SWAT, Crime Response Team (CRT) and Bomb Disposal Unit will be ready round the clock to deal with any untoward situation during Durga Puja.

Monitoring cells will be operational at Police Headquarters and other police units on the occasion of Durga Puja.

The meeting was attended by RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman, SB Chief Md. Golam Rasul, Additional IG of Highway Police Md. Delwar Hossain Miah, Additional IG (Crime and Ops) Khondaker Rafiqul Islam, Additional IG of ATU Md. Rezaul Karim, Additional IG of River Police Kusum Dewan and Additional IG of Tourist Police Md. Mainul Hasan.

Superintendents of Police were also present at the meeting virtually.

Vice Chairman of Hindu Religious Welfare Trust Tapan Majumder, President of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad Nirmal Rosario and General Secretary Monindra Kumar Nath, President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad Basudeb Dhar and General Secretary Santosh Sharma, President of Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee Jayant Kumar Deb, and Secretary General of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Kalyan Front S.N. Tarun Dey, among others, were present at the meeting.
