DHAKA, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) will wait until the court order on the dispute over the demarcation of the constituencies of the Jatiya Sangsad.

Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat said this to reporters at his office at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon today.

"I have received information that 14 writ petitions have been filed regarding the demarcation till to date. Since the matter is now under the jurisdiction of the court, I think it is a matter of sub judice . We have faith in the court. It will be right decision to wait for the court order," he said.

Responding to a question from journalists about the demarcation dispute, he said, “Any kind of vandalism or violence is undesirable. Since the matter is now sub judice, we respect the court’s decision. The verdict given by the court will be binding on us. Therefore, everyone should wait with faith in the legal process.”

The Election Commission has already published the final list for the demarcation of the parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections.

In the final list, changes have been brought to 37 parliamentary seats in the country, which has put impact on a total of 46 seats.

Notable changes include the number of seats in Bagerhat is reduced from 4 to 3 and the number of seats in Gazipur is  increased from 5 to 6.
The EC sources said that these changes were made after taking the opinions of the local people and reviewing various complaints.

However, since writ petitions are pending in the court regarding the matter, the commission will take further steps as per the court’s orders.
