DHAKA, Sept 19, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S. Murshid emphasized that the care economy plays a vital role in advancing women's economic empowerment.

"The care economy not only meets essential social needs but also acts as a powerful engine for job creation. A well-developed care sector provides significant opportunities for women through safe and decent employment, thereby enhancing their participation in labor markets at home and abroad," she said.

The adviser made the remarks while leading the Bangladesh delegation at the South-4-Care Platform meeting in Doha, Qatar on September 15. The meeting brought together representatives from 30 member countries, said a press release received here today.

Addressing the international forum, Adviser Murshid reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to advancing the South-4-Care Agenda as a cornerstone for inclusive development and gender equality.

She highlighted the importance of strengthening international cooperation to boost women's labor market participation through strategic investment in the care economy.

Looking ahead, she said, "We believe that a strengthened care economy directly contributes to building resilient economies. By providing proper training and capacity development, particularly among youth, we aim to ensure skill-based employment and promote quality services for all."

The adviser also noted Bangladesh's growing leadership role in South Asia. "We have already initiated programs to reinforce caregiving systems and services through sustainable policies, inter-ministerial coordination and strong partnerships," she added.
