Stakeholder talks on combating technology-facilitated gender violence held in Patuakhali

PATUAKHALI, Sept 21, 2025 (BSS) - A multi-stakeholder community dialogue was held here in the district today to address the pressing issue of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).

Organized by the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC), the event was titled "Combating Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence: Current Landscape, Opportunities, Challenges, and Strategic Responses." It was part of BNNRC's ongoing project "Strengthening Resilience Against TFGBV and Promoting Digital Development."

The discussion brought together 35 participants from diverse sectors, including local administration, the Internet Service Provider Association, women-led NGOs, and women's rights organizations. Representatives from SHUJAN, SANAK, The Hunger Project, Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), Web Foundation, Aparajeyo Bangladesh, as well as youth activists, media professionals, YouTubers, and academics also took part.

This initiative is part of the Nagorikata - Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) Programme, implemented with technical support from GFA Consulting Group and funded by the Embassy of Switzerland and Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

Assistant Commissioner Rezowana Chowdhury from the Deputy Commissioner's Office attended the event as chief guest. She emphasized the importance of joint efforts from all segments of society to tackle the complex and evolving challenges of technology-based gender violence.

BNNRC CEO AHM Bazlur Rahman presented a keynote titled "Understanding Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence," shedding light on its definitions, forms, impacts, and existing legal and policy measures.

Cultural personality and writer Shuvankar Chakraborty delivered a second keynote on "Current Landscape of TFGBV in Barishal: Opportunities, Challenges, and Strategic Responses."

A panel discussion followed, focusing on the critical roles multi-sector stakeholders must play in addressing TFGBV. The dialogue underscored the need for integrated action, collective responsibility, and innovative strategies to ensure safer digital environments.

Mahfuza Sultana, Director of Shuktara Women's Organisation, delivered the welcome speech, while AHM Shamsul Islam, Mission Head of Speed Trust, outlined the event's goals and expected outcomes.
