DHAKA, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik has said the operations of naval commandos during the War of Liberation in 1971 had quickened Bangladesh’s independence.
“Heroic operations of the naval commandos during the Liberation War changed the nature of war and quickened the independence of Bangladesh,” he said.
The adviser was addressing the triennial council of the Bangladesh Freedom Fighter Naval Commando Association as the chief guest at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) here today.
The Adviser described the naval commandos operations including the Operation Jackpot as important initiatives toward achieving the country's independence.
The operations massively damaged the supply chain of Pakistani occupation forces in the river and sea routes, he said.
“The naval commando operations are being evaluated as an important initiative towards achieving independence in terms of both strategic and successful ones,” he said recalling the heroic contribution of the naval commandos in achieving the country’s independence.
Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (JAMUKA) Convenor Naeem Jahangir, President of Bangladesh Freedom Fighter Naval Commando Association Shahjahan Kabir and Vice President Anil Roy were present on the occasion as special guests.
