DHAKA, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) - The High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh has reiterated its strong commitment to promoting gender equality and supporting girls' empowerment as part of the country's global pledge to champion the rights, leadership, and voices of girls worldwide.

In a message marking the International Day of the Girl Child, observed on October 11 under the theme "The girl I am, the change I lead - Girls on the frontlines of crisis," the Canadian High Commission emphasized that girls are not merely coping with challenges but are shaping innovative solutions in times of uncertainty and crisis.

The statement noted that from building climate resilience in vulnerable communities to spearheading local innovations, girls in Bangladesh and across the world continue to demonstrate leadership, resilience, and courage in confronting social, economic, and environmental barriers.

"Here in Bangladesh, Canada is committed to support girls' leadership, ensuring safe spaces, accessible education, and the freedom to speak, act, and thrive, regardless of circumstances," the High Commission said.

The Canadian mission reaffirmed that the empowerment of girls remains central to Canada's global development and human rights agenda, particularly through initiatives focused on education, health, climate resilience, and gender-based violence prevention.

The statement further stressed that Canada stands with girls "today and every day," recognizing their dreams, their voices, and their power to lead transformative change in their families, communities, and countries.

Canada has been one of Bangladesh's longstanding partners in advancing gender equality, including through programs that promote women's participation in economic and civic life and by supporting education and leadership development for adolescent girls.

The observance of the International Day of the Girl Child aims to amplify girls' rights and call for continued global action to ensure that every girl can realize her potential free from discrimination, violence, and inequality.
