JHALAKATI, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Protik, today said the interim government is working to deliver services at people's doorsteps.

"To ensure timely services, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has decentralized decision-making in procurement, planning, and implementation at the district and upazila levels," said Faruk, also the Liberation War Affairs Adviser.

He was addressing a view-exchange meeting with the district administration, district relief and rehabilitation officers, upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs), and upazila project implementation officers at the Jhalakati Circuit House.

Noting that government projects cannot be misused in any way, Faruk-e-Azam said the government takes up projects to alleviate people's suffering and stand beside those in distress during disasters.

He said government shelters should be built in such a way that they can be used for public convenience throughout the year, in addition to being used during disasters.

"Under the supervision of the local administration, community centres and indoor sports facilities for the youth should be arranged at the shelter centres," the Adviser added.

He also instructed the authorities concerned to complete all project works by December this year.

Referring to the 2024 Mass Uprising, he said, "It has given us the opportunity to build a new Bangladesh, and we want to leave behind a country for future generations for which we will be remembered with pride."

The Adviser expressed optimism that the upcoming national elections would be held in a festive and joyous atmosphere.

"People are eager to cast their votes... You must ensure that voters can exercise their franchise in a free and fair manner," he told the participating officials.

Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Secretary Md Mostafizur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Jhalakati Md Ashrafur Rahman, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, upazila nirbahi officers, and upazila project implementation officers, among others, were present.

Later, the Adviser visited the cyclone shelter centre set up at Dapadapiya College in Bharatkathi under Nalchity upazila of the district.
