Communal harmony key to nat'l progress: Khalid

DHAKA, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) - Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain today said that communal harmony is one of the key foundations of a nation's overall development and is essential for building a peaceful, united and progressive society.

"Communal harmony is a vital element in the development and progress of human civilization. Without it, lasting peace, brotherhood and sustainable development cannot be ensured," he said while addressing a harmony meeting as the chief guest at the Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium.

Emphasizing unity among all communities, the Religious Affairs Adviser noted that the development of a country hinges on mutual cooperation and understanding among its citizens. 

"People of different religions, castes and cultures live together in our society. Without peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, a humane and developed environment cannot be established," he added.

He also said that when people live together in harmony, the country becomes more united and can develop faster.
The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner ABM Iftekharul Islam Khandaker. 

Hill District Council Chairperson Shefalika Tripura, Superintendent of Police Md. Arefin Jewel and Army Zone Commander Lt. Col. Md. Khademul Islam were present, among others, on the occasion.

Organized by the Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila Administration, the event was attended by local administration officials, political leaders, civil society members, journalists, and representatives from various religious, social, and ethnic communities-including delegations from the Chakma, Marma, Tripura and Bengali communities.
