CHATTOGRAM, Oct 10, 2025 (BSS)- The body of Abdul Hamid, who passed away in a prison in the United Arab Emirates, has been brought back in Chattogram today.

A Bangladesh Biman flight (BG-128) carrying his body landed at Shah Amanat International Airport at 10:10 am today. His younger brother Sohel and his wife Kohinoor Akhter received the body in presence of the concerned officials.

Abdul Hamid was the son of Abdul Salam from the Guzra area of Noapara union in Raozan upazila of Chattogram. Family sources said Hamid passed away in custody in Abu Dhabi, UAE on September 22.

Abdul Hamid, an expatriate worker, was arrested by the country's law enforcement agencies in Abu Dhabi on April 21 last year for his alleged involvement in protests supporting mass upsurge in Bangladesh in July 2024.

Since then he was in Al-Sadr prison in Abu Dhabi. His wife said they could contact him only twice while in prison. The family claims that Hamid passed away on September 22, but cause of death remains unclear.
