DHAKA, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) – Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan today said they want to build such a human rights commission that protects people from being victimized of injustice.
“The draft of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of 2025 will truly bring up the ongoing incidents of enforced disappearance, extra-judicial killings, tortures in custody and various human rights violations. It was absent when we were victimized by injustice during the fascist government. We all were the victims of the court,’ he said.
He made the remarks while speaking at a national consultation on the draft National Human Rights Commission Ordinance, 2025, held at the InterContinental Hotel ballroom in the capital.
The Adviser said the initiative that was taken by the Interim Government will establish a true human rights commission.
“No system had worked in Bangladesh in the past 15 and a half years. All the organizations from judiciary to human rights commission had become ineffective. The National Human Rights Commission that was established during the army supported government was decorated with political workers and it guaranteed no rights to the people,” he said.
The Adviser said Bangladesh has to come out from the situation with the collective efforts of all concerned.
“We have to do it correctly in a limited time prior to the national election as the people of Bangladesh will never be victimized of injustice after defeating the future possibilities of establishing injustice. But, it requires a collective effort,” he said.
The Adviser reminded them that they have got “New Bangladesh” in exchange for blood, saying, “We have to build various organizations in a planned way.”
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Secretary Dr. Hafiz Ahmed Chowdhury, Swiss Ambassador Reto Siegfried Renggli, Deputy Head of Mission of the Danish Embassy Anders B. Carlsen, UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Liller, among others, also spoke.
Romana Schweiger, Law, Justice and Security Adviser, UNDP Bangladesh, moderated the event.
It was also attended by senior officials of the ministry and the national human rights commission, teachers and students from various universities in the country and abroad, representatives of various human rights organizations and institutions, and lawyers from the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
