Ex-chief of Naval Staff Sarwar Jahan Nizam laid to rest with military honour

DHAKA, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) – The Namaz-e-Janaza of former Chief of Naval Staff Vice- Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam (Retd.) was held after Zohr prayers today at the Naval Headquarters Jame Mosque here.

Advisers to the Interim government, Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, former Navy Chiefs, senior military and civilian officers of the Armed Forces, and members of the bereaved family attended the Janaza.

Following the Janaza, the deceased was taken to Banani Military Graveyard and laid to eternal rest with full military honour, according to an ISPR statement here. 

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan paid tribute to the deceased by placing floral wreath at the grave. As per military tradition, a gun salute and other formal military honour were rendered during the burial.

Later, the Chief of Naval Staff handed over the Bangladesh Navy flag, cap, sword, medals, and insignia to the widow of the late Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam, who served as the Chief of Naval Staff from 2007 to 2009.

He passed away yesterday at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka at the age of 73.
