DHAKA, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS) – The Directorate of Primary Education (DOPE) has taken initiative to improve the infrastructure of 534 government primary schools across the country.
Of the total, 488 existing model government primary schools in 64 districts, while 46 selected schools in the 10 city corporation areas, according to a letter signed by Mirajul Islam Ukil, Director (Planning and Development) of DOPE.
The development work will be implemented under the project titled “Infrastructure Development of Existing Model Government Primary Schools and Selected Government Primary Schools in 10 City Corporations” with an estimated cost of Taka 2,617 crore.
The letter stated that the list of 46 schools in the city corporation areas must be verified by the respective Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) and submitted to the DOPE.
It also mentioned that data on the 488 existing model government primary schools were collected from the IPEMIS system, while the lists of the selected schools in the 10 city corporations were previously obtained from the District Primary Education Officers.
According to the decision taken in the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) meeting, the verification letters must bear the signatures of the Upazila Education Officer and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
DOPE sources said that the project will improve classrooms, sanitation, drinking water facilities, administrative buildings, and playgrounds. The project is being implemented jointly by the Directorate of Primary Education and the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).
Officials of the Ministry of Education said the initiative will enhance the learning environment in primary schools and increase students’ interest in studies.
